The next Triffid Ranch show
As I look over a growing space full of Sarracenia that have gone dormant from the heat (as of the moment I write this, it's 39 degrees C outside, and I'm bicycling home in it), and the Nepenthes that are luxuriating in 44-degree heat in the greenhouse, I can't wait until September. Part of it is that I look forward to weather where the handlebar grips on my bike don't melt and stick to my bicycle gloves. The other is because the upcoming FenCon VI is eight weeks away, and I haven't done a show in a while. If you have any plans to come out to Dallas this year, now's the time: the hotel is spacious and well-cooled, the outside temperatures aren't going to be too outrageous, and we have plenty of interesting restaurants within walking distance. Oh, and lots and lots of plants, if I have any say in the matter.

Wow, another great guest lineup for FenCon.

One of these days I am going to go to Tim Miller and crew and get down on my knees and BEG them to have FenCon any weekend but the third weekend in September, so I can come back. The first one was excellent, and I want more. MORE, I say!

I hear you. Last year, having it in October was perfect, and with the Texas/OU weekend game probably moving to Arlington, it'd be nice to have something in Dallas that weekend that didn't involve facepainters puking in the streets. The convention itself was so good that the Czarina and I paid in advance for our tables, and we'd love to see an October convention that filled the old Armadillocon niche.

I'll tell you what. Why don't we ask, very nicely, to see about this in 2010? If only so that more non-Dallasites come out to see the city without bursting into flame when they step out of the airport?

May have to start begging asking nicely more than one year out, given the way hotel scheduling/contracting goes.

We've got two months until the next show. Let me start pleading now.

If I ever come to Dallas (which I might), it won't be in August!
